Activities at Tautona Lodge

Another way to explore the Kalahari is on foot, led by San People who will take you on an authentic, adventurous and informative guided walk. On the walk with these gentle people, they will share information of their ancient culture and how they used to live and survived in these arid areas. They will share their knowledge of tracking animals, as well as the fauna and flora of the Kalahari. Please book your walk in advance.  P100.00 per person (minimum 6 guests or pay for 6)

We offer traditional San dancing around the fire at the Lodge after dinner. A variety of dances are demonstrated. The dances are an exceptional and unique experience. The ladies keep the rhythm by clapping and singing to build the energy, while the healers (mostly men) dance with their rattles. This is a most memorable experience.

Please book your dance in advance.  P200.00 per person (minimum 6 guests or pay for 6)

At Tautona Lodge you can enjoy a game drive in any weather conditions; you will always enjoy viewing the game from the comfort of your own car. On the well maintained roads it is a comfortable one and half hour drive. Sightings of antelope species such as Eland, Oryx, Blue Wildebeest, Impala, Kudu and Giraffes and not to mention the smaller mammals like the black-backed jackal, porcupines and ground squirrel. The area also allows an extensive variety of bird life.

The Vulture Restaurant is located in Ghanzi and has been created in support of the critically endangered Vulture species. Vultures are an important part of today’s eco system and unfortunately numbers are decreasing for various reasons including loss of habitat, being hunted for traditional medicine and one of the biggest factors is poisoning. The Vulture restaurant provides a safe haven for vultures to feed as although they cannot get food poisoning due to having an incredibly acidic stomach to prevent the spread of disease, this does not protect them against lead poisoning. You can visit the ‘restaurant’ guided tour which gives you some background on this somewhat misunderstood species, whilst contributing towards a good cause.  – P150 per person
